Update 42.2 landed on PC July 15 and hits consoles July 23. It's a bigger patch than the version number suggests — the tutorial alone is a complete ground-up rebuild.
The Tutorial Actually Teaches the Game Now
The old tutorial was borderline useless for new players — a quick run through basics that left you completely unprepared for a real match. The new Basic Training system is 17 chapters with an NPC squadmate who walks you through everything: movement, blue zone mechanics, vehicle controls, looting priority, and squad communication.
Each chapter requires you to actually perform the action, not just watch a popup. It's the kind of tutorial the game needed three years ago, but better late than never. If you have friends getting into PUBG for the first time, point them here before dropping them into a live match.
Hot Drop Is Back
The fan-favourite arcade mode returns. Hot Drop drops you into compact zones with pre-staged loot — no slow parachute phase, no twenty minutes of nothing. Just immediate action from the landing. Great for warming up mechanics or squeezing in a quick session.
Solo FFA Deathmatch Coming July 29
The all-vs-all Deathmatch mode is launching at the end of the month. No circle, no survival — just kills. It's the fastest way to get trigger reps in and should be a solid aim trainer within the actual game client.
Radial Messages
New quick communication tool — radial menu pings for squad play. Call out enemy positions, request heals, signal movement directions without needing voice chat. Console and PC both get it. Simple addition that'll get used constantly.
Console: You Can Now Choose Framerate Over Resolution
Finally. Console players can now pick between a Resolution Mode (1440p/4K, lower FPS) and a Performance Mode (1080p, locked 60 FPS). PUBG at 60 FPS is a legitimately different game compared to a higher-res but lower frame experience — this was a long-overdue option.
What Else
Survivor Pass: Just Married (yes, it's wedding-themed). Progressive SLR skin that evolves at 300 kills. Map updates to Taego and Rondo. The usual seasonal rotation.
