Riot Is Bringing Back OG League — 60 Champs, Atmogs, and Pure Nostalgia

League of Legends Classic is real. Riot announced a separate game mode that recreates 2009–2013 LoL — original item builds, rune pages you bought with IP, slow towers, and 60 classic champions. No ranked queue, just vibes.

They actually did it. Riot officially announced League of Legends Classic — a standalone mode inside the client that takes you back to the era when Atmog's was the meta, every game went 50 minutes, and nobody knew what wave management was.

What "Classic" Actually Means

This isn't a reskin or a themed event. It's a full recreation of the 2009–2013 game:

  • 60 champions — the original roster, locked at their classic versions. No current patches, no modern reworks.
  • Old item system — Atmog's (Atma's Impaler + Warmog's) is back. So is old Deathfire Grasp, Madred's Bloodrazor, and stacking Sword of the Occult. Enjoy.
  • Original rune and mastery system — you buy runes with IP, you build mastery trees. Flat armor yellows meta again.
  • Towers are actual towers — they'll kill you early. No modern diving level 2.

The Progression System

No battle pass. Instead there's a free track called "Summoner's Journey" that replaces paid progression. Riot is also launching The Council — a community voting system where players decide what gets added or changed in Classic. More champs, balance tweaks, which old events to bring back — the community drives it. Sounds wild on paper, might actually work.

No Ranked. On Purpose.

Riot is very clear about this: Classic has no ranked queue. The whole point is to play with friends without the pressure of climbing. If you want to grind LP, stick to live servers. If you want to experience a 60-minute Baron-free game where everyone is building whatever they feel like, Classic is for you.

When Does It Drop?

Riot hasn't pinned an exact date. The strong hint is that it arrives alongside or shortly after Season 3's launch on July 29. Keep an eye on the client — it'll appear as a separate mode in the game selection screen.

Personally? I've been waiting for this since 2018. Let's go.
